World Cup in Review: I Believe that San Diego State Will Win

I Believe That We Will Win . . . someday. No. The USMNT did not win the World Cup. But it is not all doom and gloom. For example:

(1) Tim Howard saved a bunch of things.

(2) An increasing number of Americans are fortified by the Men in Blazers's "belief that Soccer is America's Sport of the Future. As it has been since 1972."

(3) Today is DeAndre Yedlin's 21st birthday.

(4) San Diego State University ("SDSU") may have stumbled into a valuable trademark.

If you watched any of the USMNT games, you certainly heard chants of "I Believe That We Will Win!" ring out. The slogan was adopted by the "American Outlaws" (the unofficial supporters' group for the USMNT) and used throughout the World Cup to signify the USA's arrival as a serious tournament contender. Yes. I Believe That We Will Win . . . someday. I believe that SDSU will win sooner.

Indeed, SDSU is on the cusp of recieving trademark protection for the oft-used phrase "I believe that we will win!" The University filed for the mark on October 27, 2011, and it will be published for opposition on July 22. If the mark is not challenged within thirty days of July 22, it will likely be registered to San Diego State. Interestingly, on July 1, a limited liability company in Illinois filed for the mark "I, I BELIEVE, I BELIEVE THAT, I BELIEVE THAT WE, I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL WIN!" for the same goods and services as the would-be SDSU mark. I have a feeling a match on the trademark pitch may be looming. We shall wait and see.

While we are waiting, let's get fired up for 2018!
